Glossary

Acronyms, decoded.

Buffered probe

A temperature probe suspended in glycol, glass beads, sand or similar, so it reflects product temperature rather than air.

CCEOP

Gavi's Cold Chain Equipment Optimisation Platform, a funding route for approved cold chain equipment.

Data logger (DDL)

A device that records temperature at intervals and lets you review the history.

Excursion

Any period when temperature leaves the allowed range, hot or cold.

Freeze-sensitive

A product, typically with an aluminium adjuvant, that is permanently damaged by freezing.

Holdover

How long a fridge stays within a safe temperature after power stops.

ILR

Ice-lined refrigerator. Mains-powered, with coolant lining the walls for long holdover.

KEPI

Kenya Expanded Programme on Immunization.

PCM

Phase-change material, a coolant that absorbs heat as it melts to hold a steady temperature.

PQS

WHO's Performance, Quality and Safety programme that prequalifies immunisation equipment.

PPIP

Kenya's Public Procurement Information Portal, where public tenders are published.

SDD

Solar direct-drive refrigerator, powered by panels without a battery.

ULT freezer
